Discussion:
Daily Cialis vs. "As Needed"
(too old to reply)

Does anyone here have personal experience with smaller doses of Cialis
taken daily vs. larger doses taken prior to sexual activity?
Comparative effectiveness?

Also are there any easy to comprehend not too statistical articles on
it anywhere? The one on cialis.com was a little hard for me to
interpret.

This is far more than 2-cents worth but may
answer the question.

Uro put me in a 'regular' dosing trial of Cialis
in early-2007 to see if it would keep me GTG and
also substitute for an alfa-blocker (for bph).

Simple answer, "yes" on GTG and "no" for the bph.

Trial started with 10mg of Cialis every day for
five days. Then a break of several days. Then
it was 10mg every 48 hours for 10 days and
another break. Finally it was 5mg daily for a
couple of weeks. The trial didn't include a
2.5mg dose. Also, no use of Trimix during the
trial. For my age (73 at the time) the Uro
wanted a minimum of two tries at sex each week.

Any of the doses supported good NEs and I was
GTG at two or three times a week. We would have
to work a bit longer to get it up if we were
beyond 30 hours from a dose. (One of things I
had to keep track of.)

My limit was around 30mg per week. About 10
days into the daily 5mg part of he trial, I was
feeling, "fuzzy/hung over" Blood pressure was
depressed too far and Cialis didn't do much for
the bph. I had occasional leg pain during the
trial and felt "generally better" after the
trial was over.

Note: When we tried regular-dosed Cialis, we
had been well established on Trimix for almost a
year and the Cialis results weren't as
dependable as what we had come to expect of Trimix.

I think 2.5mg/day along with an alfa-blocker
might have been better for me but my ED was
sufficiently advanced (age 73 with 'T' down
around 425) that Trimix was a more satisfying
med for sex.

After the Cialis trial, I started using 1/2 tab
of Levitra three times a week to support NEs &
pump training. Sometimes we manage to convert
an NE to sex without Trimix. That's better than
I could do in 2006.

But without Trimix for sex, I think that
seven-5mg doses of Cialis a week would be more
effective/dependable than are three-10mg of Levitra.

Looking at the cost, daily Cialis will run about
$300/mo. My Trimix + Levitra is less than 1/3
that cost without the side-effects of Cialis.

Lily might do well to put out a 30-pack of 2.5mg
tabs for $100. That might get some interest
going on regular dosing -- something that we now
know can improve NEs and help reverse some cases
of ED -- particularly in younger guys that
haven't smoked.

Do you know if the $300 is the price? That would
be pretty steep, would be cheaper to use the old
pills.

They are offering a free 30 day trial on their web
site. I may try that, would be a good savings for
me. I currently buy the 10mg and cut it in half
for 5mg to save $$$.

Sorry, that $ 300 was based on my pharmacy plan
which is probably typical.

Mine gets nine bucks 'co-pay' for the first four
pills (any size of Cialis or Levitra) each
month. Then, it's $8.70 per pill for the next
15 pills. Plan is limited to 19 tabs a month.
(probably to avoid us reselling tabs to buddies)
Then it's off to Costco for the rest at $15 a tab.

I split 20mg tabs and dose every other day so I
get by for $90 a month. But that doesn't keep
me 100% GTG. A script of thirty 2.5mg tabs
would run me $ 304.50 using my pharma plan and
Costco for the rest.

That price has jumped around quite a bit and the
number of pills in the 'co-pay' allowance has
been cut from eight down to four over the last
few years.

We know Ranbaxy can meet US-FDA quality
standards and make a profit at two bucks a pill,
Lily could do well at $100 for a 30 pill blister
pack -- and still support an over-priced
advertising budget -- even allowing for new
bathtubs! >>:-|

For me, a combo works well: an e-o-d pill for
general fitness and Trimix 'as-needed.' Runs
less than $ 125/mo. Pills from India would cut
that in half.

But on regular dosing, it's nice to more
precisely control the dose size. (titrating to
balance effect versus side-effect.) The liquid
users have a big advantage on this.

How successful have you been? I only ever tried Cialis once or twice,
and found the side effects to be really unpleasant, compared to
Levitra or even Viagra - maybe because they, like the main effect,
last longer.

Subsidiary question - how effective do you find C to be compared with
L and V?

Aside from the trial last year, I've not used
Cialis. I'm on Hytrin. My Uro and PriCare doc
want me to use a pill with a shorter half-life.
Levitra is as far as they want to push it. I
wasn't on Cialis long enough to really 'settle
in' with the med and get over the initial side
effects.

My Uro prescribes Cialis as a first choice for
new E.D. patients. He uses Levitra or Viagra to
get a shorter half-life where drug interactions
are a concern or the patient wants a faster
initial response.

More than 10mg of Levitra and I get more than
the usual hamstring pain after a long walk,
workout or bike ride.
