Hello All,

I am 37 years old and for the past 3 months i have problem in
maintaining an erection only when i stand up. I have read all matching
posts in here and it seems that :

a) There are people that when standing up achieve BETTER erections

b) There are people that when standing up CANNOT achieve an erection

It seems that people in category (a) have some sort of venous leakage
but for us with (b) i have no idea what the hell is going on. Anyway i
will through my 2 cents of what may be happening to all of you here.

**Has anybody who has this problem having an erection standing up
found out what exactly was wrong?** At this time i do not care about
the solution like getting a Viagra or Cialis, i just want to find the
reason.

To give you more info :

1) I believe this problem started around 3 months but progressed
slowly
2) I had FSH,LH tests which are normal. Testosterone is low but still
on normal levels
3) I achieve good quality nocturnal erections 70% of the time
(sometimes i wake up from stiff erections)
4) Because of my work i sit too damn many hours....3 hours straight,
some times. I remember that after some long sitting periods i had my
whole pelvic area numb for some 20 seconds or so. (...)
5) What i also realized is the fact that when i stand up,sometimes i
feel like my head will 'explode'. That is probably orthostatic
hypertension (not hypotension) and could be probably the reason for
my problem.

I started recording everything i do and eat....exercise, feel
stressed, the type of food i had , you name it. I analyzed these facts
and so far it seems that EXCESSIVE SUGAR plays an important role but i
need like 20 days more of data so i can come up with statistically
significant results. I will keep you guys posted

Take care and thanks for any help

It would be worth checking your blood pressure when lying down and then
standing to see if the pressure falls when you stand, or whether you have
postural (orthostatic) hypertension. However, if you have postural
hypotension I would expect you to experience symptoms of low blood pressure
when standing up such as feeling faint and dizzy. Regarding the role of
sugar, a non diabetic maintains blood glucose levels within the normal
range and sugar ingestion is unlikely to affect erectile function. However,
if you are an undiagnosed diabetic your blood glucose levels will be raised
especially after ingesting sugar; that can contribute towards erectile
dysfunction.

Is that ED only while the diabetic's glucose levels are too high, and
will it go away if/when the levels are brought back under control, or
is it a permanent result of diabetes?

Can be both. Some men only discover they have diabetes when they seek
treatment for their erectile dysfunction. Once newly diagnosed diabetes has
been regulated through diet, pills or insulin injections, sexual problems
usually disappear and the ability to get an erection is restored. However,
long-term diabetes can cause damage to the nervous system, which is involved
in the complex process of erection.

Similar situation but at 70+, I'm no longer into
nailing one when standing up.

I think this is a YMMV situation with the
individual. Probably has to do with the balance
in pressure between the arterial side and venous
side of the cavernosa and how well the venous
side is "valved off." Lots of factors will vary
that ratio.

As Jerry notes, BP difference between standing
and prone is part of it. My guess would be that
having a lot of varicose veins in the legs would
aggravate the situation. Better muscle tone in
one's legs might minimize the difference.

Sort of like, "how many g's can you pull in an
airplane before you grey out?" Everyone is
different and even different from day to day.

If I'm on Viagra I tend to wilt when I stand.
Many guys have noted that after a Trimix
injection, standing hastens the onset of
erection. (works for me) Trimix probably gives
me a better venous blockage than does Viagra +
nitric oxide.

Toughest is usually in the Uro office. Get a
small diagnostic injection sitting down in the
exam room. The appointment is over and I leave
with a controllable chubby. About half-way to
the car BOING! >:-|

Inexpensive suggestion: Try some leg anerobics
for a few months. IIRC I was doing "better"
standing when my "bride" and I were in a regular
Tai Chi group.

===> hi larry.. speaking from the other side of the fence here.... that
being one who has had prostate cancer and had it removed.....

most men who fall into this category and trying to get their erections
back after surgery have the best luck of either standing up or being on
top and letting gravity aid the process. if they lay on their back.
they say that erections are next to impossible to achieve.

being 37 and experiencing what you are saying. my guess is either blood
pressure or a stimulation issue.

if it were diabetes, that plugs up the tiny blood vessels and would
affect you all of the time.

the erection process involves hydraulic principles, so pressure is a
definitely factor.

hope this information helps.

A lot of doctors say it's psychological when ED appears and you know what, forget all the science of whatever is going on first. Reason being is because we can either solve it with logic of how I did it, or we can use a doctor's explanation, one that I guarantee is only theoretical because he himself does not know, and is just throwing out whatever sounds logical. I know this cause even my urologist/general doctor could not explain to me what was wrong with me and he straight up admitted it. (My testosterone levels are good, and no STDs)

My problem:

erectile dysfunction becoming apparent. First started losing it when I wake up in the morning (morning wood) and also losing it when I stand up. The problem got worst and worst, to the point where I felt I would only want to date a girl who never had sex before so I wouldn't embarrass myself.
Sad I know.

here's what I found out personally to improve my situation. First of all, I'm 25 years old and a personal trainer (So we know it's not an unfit issue). Nothing was really working, and guess what, it's not psychological. Reason being is cause I still was and wanted to have sex with women, any cutie walking by, girls I was clubbing with, like I wanted to bang em! There was NO nervousness I straight up wanted to F them, but my dick just wouldn't get hard for me. So how can that be psychological?

Now if you feel the same way, that you still have those feelings, but your dick isn't working right, then maybe I can help you.

Here's what worked for me:

SLEEP more. This sound stupid, and my urologist doesn't see the connection, but I study the human body, and everything in our body is connected to something else, in some way, within our body, regardless if you understand or not. my god, if you're body is tired as hell, and not getting enough rest, the hormones in you're body and many other things probably are going to stop working the way they should too. I was only doing like 3-6 hours of sleep a night. School and work are to blame. Also addiction of video games.

Stop masterbaiting for awhile. Just stop. I know we keep checking up on it to see if we get any changes but no, just stop and give it a rest. ( I did for 2 weeks)

I also tried some herbal stuff to help erections. Like Duramax. Why not right. Seemed to help a little too ( I honestly got this after my erections started getting better anyway, but it does seem to help a bit) Was pricey though, cost me $30 and another $30 for shipping. But whatever I want my dick to work right? lol I'm not saying you should try this product, but maybe try something herbal. And again, doctors wont recommend "herbs" just pills so that's why their advice is very... incomplete.

I also stopped working out so hard. (if you don't do any exercise AT ALL, do some) I am a personal trainer, and I found erections also came back from giving my body rest for exercise itself (took 2 weeks for me).

So there you have it. I think the biggest problem with people saying its psychological is that it just builds it's own hype without being really there.

My best advice is to make sure everything you do, and I mean EVERYTHING, is within what society and your self deems healthy (aka 8 hours or more of sleep, some exercise but not over doing it, lots of water, no excessive masterbation) stretch? Then you can start getting freaked out if you are doing all that normally. BUT GIVE IT TIME. Try it for a month.

Also, feel free to try some viagra, I also did it, and my penis felt AMAZING. So any psychological doubt I had faded quickly. I knew I had the power, I just needed to get myself healthier.

Have faith guys, just be healthy first, trial it for a month. Then freak out.
Doctors don't always have the answers. And I am doing this because I told God I would help back people in my situation if I ever got better.

Non-stop hard-ons! Over the past 2 months I have seen (over and over
again) TV commercials for "Viagra", "Cialis for daily use" (which we
use), "Pos-TV-ac", "Ageless Male", a new and improved andro cream, and
K-Y his and her lubes. It's all good as we are currently in the middle
of a new female sexual revolution, and Bethenny Frankel's over-the-top
daytime talk show.

I see you sent this message 8 months ago. I'm facing exactly the same problems as you. I'm 29, fit, lost morning wood 7 years ago, capacity to fuck while standing up 6 years ago, to fuck altogether 5 years ago and since 4 years im almost flacid even when I masturbate. Takes 1 minute of masturbation to get an erection and if I stop for 10 seconds, wood is gone.

All this time, I've been told it's all in my head, took hormones, cbt psychotherapy, couples therapy. Nothing worked except for cialis + yohimbine + a dopamine reuptake inhibitor + anastrazol in huge dosages and even then not always and never while standing. It barely bothers me anymore, but once and a while I check the internet for new treatments or advices.

I sleep about 6 or 7 hours a day, but I don't feel tired or stressed. I must admit that when it started I was a bit overworked but damn that was 7 years ago. Also it makes no difference if I'm on holidays.

Libido is quite low, it increases a bit in Spring (I guess that's why I'm checkin ED forums now :-) ). I'm 29 and I feel fine ... do you really think adding 2 hours to my sleep will change anything. I guess it won't hurt to try.

Anyhow, if someone has any other advises they'd be appreciated.

Cheers

I had, a very similar problem. I also sit too much for my work and I also noticed that I was experiencing back pain. I figured one might have something to do with the other and eventually came upon an instructional webpage by a fellow called Gary Crowley. I wrote to him and he sent me this.

Sounds like you have a really tight pelvic girdle.
If you do my Testicle Pain Relief page techniques,
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/testicle-pain-relief.html#.UysK061dWFY
and similar but more extensive Pelvic Girdle Pain Relief page,
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/pelvic-girdle-pain-relief.html#.UysLAK1dWFY
I think that may fix the issue, but you probably do activities in your life that tighten all these areas, so you'll want
to do maintenance as required.
Also, Video 1, Technique D, on my Hip Pain Relief page, would be good too,
http://www.do-it-yourself-joint-pain-relief.com/hip-pain-relief.html#.UysLQq1dWFY

Within the hour I was able to achieve strong standing erections. Let me know if this helps. Best of luck.
